Meep Morp Beginnings

Back when Meep Morp Mania was first conceived and proposed for our Capstone Project at Algonquin College in September 2022, we produced a pitch and the initial prototype as shown below.

By the time December 2022 rolled around, our team had prepared short preview of our revised prototype. Gone where the animated 2D characters, being replaced with 3D models.

From the beginning, the team proposed many potential features, and for the Capstone prototype (planned for April 2023) the follow have remained core features of our project:

- Cute toon-like stylization where the player takes the role of Meep Morps (creatures born in the wake of a cataclysmic event).

- Befriending other Meep Morps who join the player's party in turn-based RPG combat.

- Simulation elements in farming and operating a shop.

The initial player character concept (by Ana Fryzek) also remained (as shown below). For the bulk of gameplay, the player would have control of 3 Meeps named Pip, Plop, and Jeffery (ordered from top to bottom), however Jeffery would be our main hero.

Not shown in the initial prototype, where humans. However the team has always planned on having humans play a largely antagonistic role in the game, although not exclusively.

A Butcher lovingly named Ben (after our own Ben Novick) was the first human character planned and put into motion in terms of our story, and assets as seen below.

In theme and lore, our initial concepts for Meep Morp Mania remain largely unchanged, however our approach to gameplay would evolve more in the next phase of our project planning... But that's a blog for another sprint.

Stay tuned for more Meep Morp history and previews.
